Bryant "Gitty Bug" Rodgers, Jr.

July 21, 1940 — May 7, 2011

Bryant R. Rodgers, Jr., affectionately known as “Gitty Bug”, 70, resident of Jackson, MO formerly of Charleston, MO died May 7, 2011 at his home. He was born July 21, 1940 in Charleston to the late Bryant and Amanda Moore Rodgers, Sr.

He was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School in Charleston. He was a member of the United States Air Force, serving from August 17, 1960 to August 16, 1966 and received an honorable discharge. He was formerly employed by Deltar Engineering Components of Frankfort, Illinois and was an Associate Pastor at Jesus is Lord Freewill Baptist Church in Cairo, IL.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Austin who survives.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Michael Rodgers of Kansas City, MO and Tomako Hatchett of Wilson City, and three daughters, LynTonya Rodgers of Kansas City, MO, Brashandra McDuffy of Rock Island,IL and Marlet Guyton of San Antonio, TX, ten brothers, Willie Curtis of Bowie, MD, Ray Rodgers of Rock Island, Phillip Rodgers, Fred Rodgers and Bobby Moore of Charleston, Lenzey Rodgers of Mounds, Michael Rodgers of Ypsilanti, MI, Sheridan Briggs and Tony Briggs of Davenport, Iowa and Wiley Reed of Cape Girardeau, eight sisters, Olestine Howard of Jackson, Dianna Gordon of Florissant, MO, Cindy Rodgers, Amanda Williams , Rosie Graham, Delmarie Moore, Shirley Moore and Barbara Moore of Charleston, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of other relatives, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Friends may call Friday, May 13, 2011 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. at the Bowden Civic Center in Charleston with Bishop James Jones of Chicago Heights, IL officiating. Interment will be Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO at noon with full military honors accorded.
