Lillian Glass

Lillian Harber Glass, 103, resident of La Forge, died May 18, 2011 at her home. She was born August 9, 1907 to Daniel Clarence and Amanda Mariah Evans Harber in Lauderdale County, TN.

She attended Arkansas State University in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and taught school in Mississippi County, Arkansas. She was also a land owner and resident of New Madrid County for 70 years. She worked with the Cooperative Extension of Lincoln University and was involved with club work with the women in the community and worked with the 4-H Club for 40 years. She served as President of the Six Southern Counties Parent-Teachers Association in the African American Schools.

She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid where she was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Board of Trustees, Choir member, President of the Missionary Society, leader of the Youth Department and Church Mother and many other organizations

On June 28, 1928 she was united in marriage to Louis C. Glass who precedes her in death.

She is survived by one son, Augusta Glass of Memphis, TN, four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linetta and John Hatcher of Springfield, MO, Pearl and Russell Allen and Lillian Hunter of New Madrid, and Anne and Donald Anthony of Cincinnati, OH, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid from 10:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 11:00 A. M. with Rev. Emmanuel Lofton officiating. Interment will follow in the Fanny Powell Cemetery in New Madrid.
