Walter Hill, Jr., 77, resident of Haywood City, Missouri died January 19, 2012 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri. He was born May 30, 1934 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late Walter and Jessie Bell Taylor Hill, Sr.
He was of the Baptist faith and attended HCT High School in Mississippi. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954, serving in Germany, and received an honorable discharge as a Private First Class.
In 1956, he was employed at Bethlehem Steel Company in Buffalo, New York. In 1984, he relocated to Haywood City and served as City Marshall until his retirement.
He is survived by two sons, Walter Hill, III of Minnesota and Wilbur Hill of North Carolina, three daughters, Sandra Moore and Antoinette Green of Woodbridge, Virginia and Gloria Jean Thomas of Buffalo, four brothers, Reverend T.J. Hill of Memphis, Tennessee, Paul Hill, Spence Hill and Lewis Hill all of Florida, four sisters, Rosa Lee Harris of Sikeston, Maggie Walker of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dorothea Moore of Arkansas and Lucille Moore of California, a special great-niece Tonia Blissett, 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Friday, January 27, 2012 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 p.m. at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood City with his brother, the Reverend T.J. Hill officiating. Interment will follow with full military rites in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
