Samuel L. Riggens, Sr., 80, resident of Charleston died Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was born September 21, 1932 in Wyatt, Missouri to the late Orange and Lula Neal Riggens.
He is a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War and was formerly employed at the Saw Mill in Wyatt, Missouri
On May 12, 1957 he was united in marriage to Margie Ree McCain who preceded him in death on February 3, 2008.
He is survived by seven sons and four daughters-in-law; Troy (Donna) Riggens and Gary Rigney of Charleston, Swayne (Roberta) Rigney of Rome, Georgia, Terry Rigney of Pacific, Missouri, Tyrone (Elizabeth) Rigney of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sgt. Gyrome Rigney of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and John Frederick Johnson of Bloomington, IL, five daughters and three sons-in law; Brenda (Randall) Hollis and Carolyn (Tommy) Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Deborah Rigney, Amelia Rigney and Rita
(Michael) Spence of Charleston, grandson/son, Jeremy Farmer
Rigney, whom he raised, one son/nephew, Ronnie Riggens, whom he raised, one daughter-in-law, Gerri Riggens of Poplar Bluff, two sisters, Mary Horton of Charleston and Mabel Horton of Haines City, FL, 75 grand-children and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Friday, May 10, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 P. M. at Opportunity Church of God in Christ with Pastor Steve Betts officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
