Sadie Francene Matthews

Sadie Matthews, 70, resident of Cairo, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 at her home. She was born March 20, 1943 in Mounds to the late Richard and Dovia Bell Anderson.

She graduated from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee with a Bachelor’s in Education and was employed at Bennett Elementary School in Cairo for 33 years, retiring in 2003.

She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church on Washington Street in Cairo where she was on the Mother’s Board, Usher Board and a member of the Mission Society.

She is survived by one son, Robert Matthews II of Cairo, one daughter, Lisa Matthews of Cairo, her ex-husband, Robert Matthews I of Cairo and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Friday, November 22, 2013 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at First Missionary Baptist Church on Washington Street with Pastor Jimmy Ellis, Sr. officiating.

Interment will follow in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
