Joseph Stevens, Jr, 73, resident of Oran died, Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Chaffee Nursing Home. He was born July 21, 1940 in Macon, Mississippi to the late Joseph and Lena Mae Williams Stevens, Sr.
He was previously employed by the Cedar Rapids Sanitation Department in Cedar Rapid, Iowa and was a member of New Morning Star Baptist Church in Haywood City.
He is survived by ; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Richard Cannady of Baltimore, Maryland, Sheila and Charles Cooper of Springfield, Missouri and Sandra Stevens of St. Louis, Missouri, seven sisters, Martha Smith and Marie Kelsaw of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Mary Flowers of Chicago Illinois, Laura(Aaron )Polk and Bertha Manning of Grand Rapids Michigan, Matilda McBride of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Doris(Sherman) Patterson and Bettye(Willie) Dixon, Jr. of Macon, Mississippi and Nicole Stevens of Cedar Rapids , Iowa, two granddaughters, Deneka Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, Nyah Cannady of Baltimore, Maryland, one grandson, Nygel Cannady of Palmetto, Florida, one great grandson, Martavius Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, one great granddaughter, Deniyah Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, a special cousin, Henry Earl Stevens and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at New Morning Star Baptist Church in Haywood City with the pastor, Rev. Alex Sims officiating.
Interment will follow in the Haywood City Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston in charge of arrangements.
