Vada C Strayhorn

August 18, 1940 — August 1, 2014

Vada Strayhorn, 73, affectionately known as ‘Doll’ died August 1, 2014 at the East Prairie Nursing Center. She was born August 18, 1940 in Coldwater, MS to the late Homer and Irene Cassell Porter.

She lived in Wolf Island/Pinhook area and had recently moved to East Prairie. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Wolf Island, Missouri. She was also the former Mayor to the Village of Pinhook and a cook for several years at ‘Lambert’s Café’.

On November 19, 1958 she was united in marriage to Roy Strayhorn who survives of East Prairie.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven sons and two daughters-in-law; Jimmy and Carissa Strayhorn of Horn Lake, MS, Patrick Strayhorn , Robert Strayhorn and Quinton Strayhorn of East Prairie, Anthony and Jenny Strayhorn of Paducah, KY, Jose Strayhorn of Atlanta, GA, Gregorio Strayhorn of Moberly, MO and one daughter, Brianna Strayhorn of Charleston, one brother, Walter Porter of Erie, PA, two sisters, Minnie L. Brown and Mary Ross of Sikeston, 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 1:00 P. M. until the time of services at 2:00 P. M. at Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston with Rev. Sylvester Davis officiating. .

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
