Juanita F. Ware Spicer, 78, resident of Cape Girardeau died August 12, 2014 at her home. She was born September 30, 1935 in Fort Smith, AR to the late Ben and Muriel Gentry Ware.
She confessed hope in Christ when she was 10 years old while in Vacation Bible School and was a faithful member of Mallalieu United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, AR. In 1976 she became a faithful member of St. James AME Church in Cape Girardeau where she served as a trustee along with many other positions.
She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Fort Smith and received a Bachelor of Science in Education on May 4, 1957 from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.
She work many years as a Business Education Teacher in Milwaukee, WI, Madison, WI and at Cape Central High School. She later operated the Jack and Jill Play School and started the EMS Tutorial Program. She was a past President of the local NAACP, a member of the Minority Affairs Commission and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She was also a recipient of the Martin Luther King Award and the Vision 2000 Service to the Community Award.
On June 30, 1957 she was united in marriage to Edward M. Spicer who preceded her in death on October 30, 1991.
She is survived by three sons, Vincent Spicer of Cape Girardeau, Eric Spicer of Kansas City, Missouri and Edward Spicer, Jr. of Compton, CA, one brother, Ray Ware, one sister, Bennie Gunn of Fort Smith, eight grand-children, 12 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Monday, August 18, 2014 from noon until time of service at 1:00 P. M. at St. James AME Church in Cape Girardeau with Pastor Rodney Moody officiating. Interment will follow in the Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
