George Edward Porter

George Edward Porter, 56, resident of Cairo, died August 18, 2014 at the St. Francis Medical Center. He was born September 30, 1957 in Charleston, MO the son of Milton and Annie Ruth Phelps Porter.

He was a member of Jesus is Lord Church in Cairo where he served as a deacon. He was veteran of the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge.

He was united in marriage to Henrietta Jones Brooks on September 30, 1995 who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Milton Porter of Sikeston and George Porter, Jr. of Cape Girardeau, one daughter, Stephanie Porter of Chicago, two step sons, Alfonzia Swift of South Beloit, IL and Willie Williams of Cairo, two step daughters, Sharon (James ) Willis of Murphysboro, IL and Linda Brooks of St. Louis, one brother, Ronald Porter of Carbondale, IL, one sister, Shirley Tyus of Douglasville, GA and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at Jesus is Lord Church in Cairo with the Pastor, Rev. Hubert Pirtle officiating. Interment will be on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Mound City National Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
