Vernell Long, 64, affectionately known as “Cracker”, resident of Matthews died, December 8, 2014 at Close to Home Care Center in Matthews. He was born June 24, 1950 in Dorena, MO to the late Vernon and Eula Mae Bell Long

He was of the Baptist faith and a former employee of Thurman Farms.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Frederick and Rochelle Chappell of Sikeston, Mortis Corbitt of Denver, CO and Turrell and Ruby Corbitt of Miami, FL, two daughters and one son-in-law, Shannon Corbitt (Larry Smith) and Shalonda and Felix Chappell of Charleston, two brothers, Jerry Long of Mounds, IL and James Long of Benton Harbor, MI, three sisters, Lauren Woodson of Mounds, Rose Long of Benton Harbor, MI and Jeanette Love of South Bend, IN, 16 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 11:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at St. Matthews Full Gospel Church in Charleston with the Pastor, Rev. Floyd Wade officiating.

Williams Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
