Mary Armstrong Newcomb, 86, affectionately known as “Bright Eyes” resident of Pontiac, MI, formerly of Charleston died Monday, March 23, 2015 at her home. She was born May 19, 1928 in Charleston to the late Alfred and Martha Jefferson Armstrong.
She was a former member of St. Matthews Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston where she served on the Mothers’ Board and was a member of the Choir until her health began to fail. In 2000 she relocated to Pontiac, Michigan. She was a member of Prospect Baptist Church in Pontiac.
She was united in marriage to Hope Newcomb, Jr. who also precedes her in death. She is also preceded in death by one son, Hope Newcomb, III and five daughters, Debra Newcomb, Sherry Newcomb, Betty Jean Allen, Molly Jane Manns, and Willie Mae Wynns.
She is survived by two sons, Henry Charles Coleman of Pontiac, MI and Joseph Lee Newcomb of Canton, MI, four daughters, Martha Ann Tipler of Ullin, IL, Mary Louis Edmonds of Detroit, Trolley Faye Ballentine of Pontiac and Linda Lue Miller of Warren, MI, 35 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, 38 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 11:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at St. Matthews Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with the pastor, Rev. Floyd Wade officiating.
Interment will be in the National Cemetery in Mound City, IL with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements
