Ruby L. Johnson, 80, resident of Charleston died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. She was born June 22, 1935 in Clarksdale, MS to the late Walter and Susie Mix Whitney, Sr.
She was a former employee of Burkhart Foam Company in Cairo and a member of Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston where she served as an Usher.
She was united in marriage on July 21, 1963 to Richard J. Johnson who also preceded her in death in 1986.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ella and Nathaniel Branch of St. Louis, two brothers, Henry Whitney of Ft. Myers, FL and Walter Whitney, Jr. of Wyatt, one sister, Erma Whitney of Charleston, two grandchildren, Corey Branch and Tiffany Branch of St. Louis, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston with the pastor, Superintendent Steve Betts officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
