Charlie Green, Jr.

Charlie Green, Jr. was born in J-Y, Missouri on September 20, 1939 to the union of Charlie and Alberta Green. He was the oldest of 13 children. His paternal grandparents (Mollie McPharen Green and Robert Williams), maternal grandparents (George Young, Sr. and Florida Young), both parents and one sister (Uneeda Green-Marshall) and one infant son (Timothy Craig Green) preceded him in death.

He was raised in Sikeston, Missouri and attended Lincoln High school where he played basketball and he was the captain of the basketball team. He served his country in the US Army where he was a paratrooper and he also worked as a clerk typist in the Army Material Command for the Captains.

After his service in the military, he worked for McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri as a Material Planner, Inventory Coordinator, and Assistant Buyer. He was the Proprietor of Confidential Business services in St. Louis, Missouri. His education and professional preparation are from Missouri University, St. Louis, majored in Accounting; Elba Systems Corporation-received his diploma in Marketing and Management. He graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in Life Underwriter Training Council. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Cross Roads Bible College and a Master’s Degree in Theology from Cross Roads School of Divinity. He earned his Doctor’s Degree in Theology from Triune Biblical University in Kelso, Washington. He continued his professional preparation as Board of Directors Training-Legal Services, Washington, D.C.; Board of Directors Training-Missouri Credit Union System, Southeast Missouri Regional Advisory Council for Comprehensive psychiatric Service-Certificate in recent advances in Reality Therapy by Dr. William Glasser. And he has certification in Economic Education for Clergy.

He married Opal Patricia Reed on October 5, 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri. Together they became the proud parents of six children and five God-children.

He returned back home from St. Louis, Missouri to Sikeston, Missouri to pastor Green Memorial C.O.G.I.C. in 1974 after the death of his father. His move was supposed to be temporary, but his temporary move became a life-long stay here in Sikeston, Missouri.

He was busy here in Sikeston where he served his community as President of the Sikeston Branch N.A.A.C.P. for many years. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Bootheel Legal Services. He served as pastor of Green Memorial Church of God In Christ. He was elected as presiding Bishop of the Church Of God In Christ Fellowship, Inc. in 1980. He is the founder and president of the Green Memorial Biblical University founded in 1977. He is the founder and chairman of the Board of Directors for Sikeston Community Credit Union since 1981. He was a founding member of the Business Research Institute and the Community Economic Development. Under these two organizations he built homes for the elderly, disabled, and low income families. He was also an original member of the SEMO Weed & Seed Steering Committee.

His professional affiliations are Christian Counselors Professional Association; National Association of Evangelical, Evangelical Training Association, Association of Christian Schools International and American Accrediting Association of Theological Institutions. He has researched and published Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage-Study Guide Booklet, The Place of Women in the Church’s Ministry-Study Guide Booklet, End Time-Study Guide; Gifts of the Spirit-Study Guide and an Expositional Study of 1 John released in May 1994.

As for his Christian experiences, he accepted Jesus on July 20, 1960 and answered the call to ministry in 1967. He was the Vice President of Y.P.W.W. at Williams Temple C.O.G.I.C. He was a member of the board of trustees as well as a Sunday School teacher at Williams Temple C.O.G.I.C. He was the State Treasurer C.H. Mason Scholarship Fund, State President of Superannuation, State Director of Public Relations, and State Executive Board Secretary.

In March of 1994 he was recognized and appointed as Jurisdictional Prelate of the Missouri Southeast Third Jurisdiction.

He leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy: his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Mother Opal P. Green; One daughter, Janet S. Green of Memphis, TN; four sons, Charlie Green, III of Sikeston, MO, Anthony G. Green (Vanissa) of Atlanta, GA, Andrew M. Green of Atlanta, GA, and Christopher P. Green (LaShonda) of Memphis, TN; ten grandchildren, Phillip, Anthony II, Hillary, Christopher II, Mallory, Azaryah, Xavier, Christa, Zaden, and Austin; five God-children, Clinton Bryant (Sheila), Clinton Charles, II, LeighAnne, Cameron, and Rosie Lane Mitchell (Jimmy); eleven siblings, Almeda Yancey (Billie) of St. Louis, MO, Dorothy Sanders and Juanita Andrews (Fred) of St. Louis, MO, Pearl Newsome (Willie) and Mary Marshall (Turner) of Kansas City, MO, Nathaniel Green (Rose) of Sikeston, MO, Jonathan Green (Edna) of St. Louis, MO, Edward Green (Connie), Derrick Green (Wife), and Michael Green (Stephanie) all of Kansas City, MO, and James Green of Atlanta, GA; a special mother-in-law, Illaree Reed Triplett; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, faithful members of Green Memorial and Missouri Southeast Third Jurisdiction, and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday at Cape First of Sikeston with a memorial celebration beginning at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:00 am until 11:00 am Friday at Green Memorial Church of God in Christ.

The official funeral service will be at 11:00 am at Green Memorial Church of God in Christ with Bishop Jerry Macklin, 2nd assistant to presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake of the Church of God in Christ, General Board Member officiating.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
