Dorcas Spence, 88, resident of Charleston, Missouri died Monday, October 10, 2016 at her home. She was born January 11, 1928 in Charleston to the late Elder Elijah and Louise Thomas Betts.
Dorcas was an active member of the Opportunity Church of God in Christ under the leadership of her brother, Superintendent Steve Betts, until her transition.
She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Walter and Lue Ann Spence, Jr. of Sikeston, Missouri, Michael and Rita Spence of Charleston, Kelley Spence and Kiley Spence of Jefferson City, Missouri, three daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Ronnie Riggens, Dorothy Jean Pierce, and Khahilah Spence of Charleston, two brothers, Gary Betts, Sr. of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Steve Betts of Charleston, seven sisters, Betty Burns, Labirdia Moore, and Delores Salmon of St. Louis, Missouri, Rochelle McVay of Memphis, Tennessee, Deborah Turner of Charleston, Jennie Townsend and Ruth Simpson of Kankakee, Illinois, 30 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm Friday, October 14, 2016 at Opportunity Church of God in Christ with a memorial celebration beginning at 7:00pm. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00am at Opportunity Church of God in Christ with Superintendent Steve Betts officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston.
