Ray Rodgers, affectionately known as Paperboy, 64, resident of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Charleston, Missouri, died Friday, November 11, 2016 at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, Illinois. He was born August 4, 1952 in Charleston, Missouri to the late Bryant and Amanda Butler Rodgers.
Ray was educated in the Charleston School system and attended the University of Chicago. He had been employed by Modern Woodman and Combined Insurance Companies. Ray served his country honorably in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Rodgers of Rock Island, Illinois, three sons, Demetrias Rodgers of Richmond, Virginia, Marquis Rodgers of Naperville, Illinois, and Joshua Rodgers of Rock Island, Illinois, two daughters, Latisha Rodgers of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brittany Rodgers of Rock Island, eight brothers, Willie (Mary Francis) Curtis of Bowie, Maryland, Fred Rodgers of Charleston, Lenzey (Sonia) Rodgers of Fort Mitchell, Alabama, Bobby Moore of Sikeston, Missouri, Michael Rodgers of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Sherdell Briggs of Iowa City, Iowa, Tommy Briggs of Sunnyvale, California, Wiley Reed of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, five sisters, Dianna Gorden of Florissant, Missouri, Amanda (Steve) Williams, Cindy Rodgers, Rosie Graham, and Shirley Murray all of Charleston, three grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Rock Island. Burial followed in the National Cemetery in Rock Island.
