Gussie Lee Mead, 92, resident of Lilbourn, Missouri died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Golden Living Center in New Madrid, Missouri. He was born August 3, 1924 in Augusta, Arkansas to the late Essie Ida Hill
Mead and Clarence Mead.
He was a farmer for many, many years. In addition to farming, he loved driving trucks and combines. He eventually went to work for the University of Missouri Extension Center in Portageville, Missouri. He enjoyed the experimental testing and being a part of the community.
Gussie was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Catron, Missouri and he was also a member of Rising Sun, Lodge No. 34 in Catron.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army.
Gussie is survived by three sons, Albert Charles Whitfield of Chicago, Illinois, Albert Mead of Howardville, Missouri, and Ervin Mead of Lilbourn, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris Jean Pope of Howardville, Pauletta and Raymond Bledsoe of New Madrid, and Gloria and Ronald Carter of Lilbourn, 37 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, 24 great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 11:00 am until the funeral hour of 12:00 Noon at Pilgrim's Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Lilbourn. Interment will follow in Simmon's Park Cemetery in Catron with full military honors.
