Lucinda Berdean Henderson Ferguson Vaughn

January 29, 1912 — February 13, 2017

Lucinda Berdean Henderson Ferguson Vaughn was born January 29, 1912 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to William H. and Lula E. Leatherwood Henderson. She was the youngest of five children. Her parents, three brothers, one sister, two husbands, N. B. Ferguson, Sr. and Reverend W.M. Vaughn, and her daughter, Angeline Ferguson have all preceded her in death.

She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She joined the Shady Grove AME Church where she grew up. After moving to Cairo, Illinois, she united with Martin Temple CME Church. Later, she joined First Central MB Church where her husband was the Pastor. She remained a member there until she moved to Detroit, Michigan. After relocating, she joined St. Matthew MB Church.

While a member of First Central MB Church in Cairo, Illinois, she served as President and Director of the Choir, President of the Usher Board, Secretary and Treasurer of the Mission, Sunday School Teacher, acted as the Superintendent of Sunday School, President of the Youth Choir, Secretary and Treasurer of Minister's Wives Alliance of Cairo and vicinity, and President of Stitch and Chatter Club of Cairo and vicinity. She was also a member of the Order of Clanthe, where she served as Orator and receiver of deposits.

Lucinda was called home to glory on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the age of 105 years, 0 months, and 15 days.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Nathaniel B. Ferguson, Jr. of Arleta, California, Willie Joe and Lela Vaughn of Detroit, Michigan, three grandsons, Jerell Vaughn of Detroit, Michigan, Raynold Blakemore of Dallas, Texas, and Troy Hearn of Pasadena, California, two granddaughters, Arli Dixon of Detroit, Michigan and Rachell Ferguson of Pasadena, California, a special nephew, George (Sheila) Vaughn of Knoxville, Tennessee, five great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

Friends may call Friday, February 24, 2017 from 10:00am until the funeral hour of 11:00am at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
