Roy J. Strayhorn, affectionately known as June, 78, resident of East Prairie, Missouri died Sunday, March 26, 2017 in the Golden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Malden, Missouri. He was born December 18, 1938 in Huntington, Tennessee to the late Arbie and Louise Drake Strayhorn.
Roy enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and gardening.
He is survived by six sons and two daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Carissa Strayhorn of South Haven, Mississippi, Patrick Strayhorn of East Prairie, Missouri, Anthony and Jenny Strayhorn of Paducah, Kentucky, Jose Strayhorn of Atlanta, Georgia, Gregorio Strayhorn of Joplin, Missouri and Quinton Strayhorn of Charleston, Missouri, one daughter, Brianna Strayhorn of Charleston, Missouri, two brothers, Willie L. Strayhorn of Cairo, Illinois, and Larry J. Strayhorn of Charleston, Missouri, four sisters, Rosie Lee Strayhorn-Porter and Mary L. Strayhorn of Wilson City, Missouri, Alma Williams of Charleston, Missouri and Joyce A. Jefro of Carbondale, Illinois, 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 pm at House of Prayer World Outreach Center in Charleston, Missouri with Reverend Sylvester Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
