Oddie Alexander Long, Sr., 98, resident of Charleston, Missouri, died Thursday, June 1, 2017 peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 23, 1919 in Wolf Island, Missouri to the late Artie and Ollie Cassell Long.
Oddie served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II.
He was married to Maggie Conners Long for just shy of 50 years. She preceded him in death in 1989.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Faye Dorothy Davis.
Oddie was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where he was the secretary for many years.
He enjoyed gardening and hunting.
Oddie is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, William (June) Long of Flint, Michigan and Oddie (Linda Faye) Long, Jr. of Charleston, Missouri, and one daughter and one son-in-law, Barbara (Arnell) Borum of Munford, Tennessee, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Friday, June 9, 2017 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 pm at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with Reverend Sylvester Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with full military honors.
