Alberta Miller, 73, resident of Sikeston, Missouri, died Saturday, August 5, 2017 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was born August 21, 1942 in Hughes, Arkansas to the late Otis Brookins and Sadie Lambert.
Alberta was raised in Sikeston and graduated from Sikeston Senior High, the Class of 1964. After graduation she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked as an inspector at Hart, Schaeffner & Marx clothier for 33 years until retirement.
She married George Miller on May 12, 1968 and he preceded her in death in 1996.
Alberta was civic and community active. She was one of the founders of the "Return 2 Sunset" gala, a vocalist at many churches in the area for funerals, and served as an election judge in Scott County.
She is survived by two sons, Lonnie Bernard Brookins and William Nathan "Pookie" Miller of Sikeston, Missouri, five brothers, Charles D. Owens of Seattle, Washington, Walter (Verna) Brookins and Eddie F. (Ethel) Lambert of Sikeston, Missouri, McKinley (Irma) Lambert of Louisville, Kentucky, and Linzie L. (Gloria) Lambert of Columbia, Missouri, three sisters, Juanita Collins of St. Louis, Missouri, Mae Lee Stevenson and Marilyn "Kaybaby" Lambert of Cordova, Tennessee, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by one son, Maxwell "Rusty" Miller, two brothers, Nathan Lambert and Charles "C.H." Grant, and one sister, Marie Hunt.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 12:00 noon at West End Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri with Reverend Johnny Avance, Pastor of Grace Tabernacle Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset of Memories Cemetery.
