Etta Mae Johnson, 93, formerly of Charleston, Missouri, a resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Friday, September 1, 2017 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was born November 19, 1923 in Caruthersville, Missouri to the late John Richard Yarbery and Helen Cook Cummings.
Etta married George Johnson of Hayti, Missouri in April of 1940 in Swift, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
She was a cook with the Charleston R-1 School District for many, many years.
Etta was also a member of Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston. She was a Missionary, Deaconess, and Mother of the Church.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Yarbery and A.W. Yarbery, and two sisters, Johnnie Mae Bracy and Georgia Yarbery.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, one sister, Leanna McElmurry of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 11:00 am until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend J. L. Posey officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
