Rosie Lee Porter

Rosie Lee Porter, 84, resident of Wilson City, Missouri died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born March 16, 1933 in Milan, Tennessee to the late Arbie and Louise Drake Strayhorn.

Rosie professed her hope in Christ at a very early age and was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Wolf Island, Missouri where she served on the Usher Board for many years. She was also a member of the adult choir.

She was united in holy matrimony to Phillip Porter in 1961. They were married for over 42 years.

Rosie enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds, She found great pleasure in studying the bible. She also loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip Porter, Sr., one son, Phillip Porter, Jr., one daughter, Linda Bradley, two brothers, John Strayhorn and Roy Strayhorn, and three sisters, Mary Nell Robinson, Gladys Lipsey and Mozella Strayhorn.

Rosie is survived by three sons, Arbery Agnew of Cairo, Illinois, Delbert Agnew of Wilson City, Missouri, and Elmer Agnew of Troy, Missouri, one daughter and one son-in-law, Kay and Shay Lewis of Florissant, Missouri, one daughter-in-law, Rose Porter of Charleston, Missouri, two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Larry (Clementine) Strayhorn of Charleston, Missouri, Willie Lee Strayhorn of Cairo, Illinois and Mary Louise White-Ross of Sikeston, Missouri, three sisters and four brothers-in-law, Alma (Stephen) Williams of Charleston, Missouri, Joyce (Charles) Jefro of Carbondale, Illinois, Mary Strayhorn of Wilson City, Missouri, Lynell Robinson, Sr. of Pinhook, Missouri, and Walter Porter of Erie, Pennsylvania, one aunt, Ophelia Buckley of Champaign, Illinois, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Friday, September 8, 2017 from 11:00 am until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Sylvester Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
