Thelma Butcher, 71, formerly of Charleston, Missouri, resident of Lithonia, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Heritage Hospice in Marietta, Georgia. She was born April 23, 1946 in Charleston, Missouri to the late LeRoy Haynes and Willie Mae Treadwell Parker.
Thelma enjoyed working with children. She was a Pre-School Teacher for over 25 years. She also loved to cook.
Thelma found joy in studying the word of God. She was a member of Living Word Christian Center in Chicago, Illinois for many years, before becoming a member of Berean Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, King Brown, her daughter, Berenice Griffin, two brothers, James Parker and Harvey Parker, and three sisters, Mildred Jackson, Mae Willie Butler, and Bernita Parker.
Thelma is survived by three sons, Jerome Haynes and LaFayette Haynes of Lithonia, Georgia, and Dwight Haynes of Chicago, Illinois, two brothers, Johnny Parker and Michael (Barbara) Parker of Charleston, Missouri, two sisters, Carolyn (Kenneth) Thomas of Hoffman Estates, Illinois and Juanita (Craig) Barner of Plainfield, Illinois, 12 grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 12:00 pm until the funeral hour of 1:00 pm at Opportunity Church of God in Christ with Pastor Steve Betts, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
