Walter Whitney, Jr., 84, resident of Wilson City, Missouri died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Charleston Manor Skilled Nursing Facility in Charleston, Missouri. He was born June 4, 1933 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late Walter Whitney, Sr. and Susie Mix Whitney.
Walter had a nice, quiet demeanor and was of the Baptist faith.
He was a hard-worker and an Auto Mechanic, who retired from Soloman's Savage Yard in Cairo, Illinois. He spent his free time fixing lawnmowers and tinkering around. Walter loved the outdoors.
On July 10, 1969, Walter was united in holy matrimony to Lorine "Pete" Neal of Charleston, Missouri who preceded him in death on June 11, 2015.
He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed helping others. Walter ran a "free" cab service for his community.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James Whitney, Theodore Whitney, Preston Whitney, and Tim Whitney, and four sisters, Earlene Whitney, Rosie Lee Whitney Fennell, Pearl Whitney, and Ruby Whitney Johnson.
Walter is survived by one daughter and one son-in-law, Brenda and Don Palmer of Benton Harbor, Michigan, one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Willine Whitney of Fort Myers, Florida, one sister, Erma Whitney of Charleston, Missouri, four grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 11:00am until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at House of Prayer World Outreach Center in Charleston, Missouri with Reverend Sylvester Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.
