W. C. Norris, Sr., 93, resident of Portageville, Missouri, died Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Missouri. He was born September 16, 1924 in Marion, Arkansas to the late Harry and Lenora White Norris.
W.C. served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He earned an Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), 2 Overseas Service Bars Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with 1Bronze Star, and a Victory Ribbon Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star.
In 1954, W.C. married Minnie Ciggs and to this union five children were born, Ray, Johnny, Barbara, Terry and W.C. "Tony" Jr. He later met and married Annie Bell Hicks. They had been married for many years.
W.C. attended church at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and he loved his church family. He was an ordained Deacon and a member of the choir.
He was honest, generous and a hard-worker. He spent most of his life farming and he made every penny count. He was a great father who was dedicated to his family and very active in his community.
W.C. is survived by his wife. Annie Bell Norris of the home, four sons and two daughters-in-law, W.C. (Doris ) Norris, Jr. of Hayti, Missouri, Terry Norris of Marston, Missouri, Johnny A. (Sherlene) Norris of Sikeston, Missouri, and Ray C. Norris of Portageville, Missouri, and one daughter, Barbara Norris, of Chicago, Illinois, 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Three brothers and one sister have preceded him in death.
Friends may call Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Portageville, Missouri with his son, Pastor W.C. Norris, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Portageville Cemetery with full military honors.
