Bertie Ann Cruthird, 66, resident of Cairo, Illinois, was called home by her heavenly Father, Friday, August 3, 2018 in her earthly home while surrounded by family. She was born August 10, 1951 in Cairo, Illinois to the late Harvey and Edith Gregory Cruthird.
She accepted Christ and was an active member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Cairo, Illinois where she was the Church Treasurer and a member of the Usher Board. For many years, Bertie was the Art Teacher at Ward Chapel AME Church Bible School in Cairo, Illinois. She was also an honorary member of First Central Missionary Baptist Church located in Cairo, Illinois.
Bertie graduated from Cairo High School Class of 1969. Her love for her community was displayed by her dedication to the Cairo School District. She was employed by the district for 33 years as a Teacher's Assistant. She loved taking care of others and was also a former Certified Nurse's Assistant.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by four brothers, Richard Cruthird, Harvey
Cruthird, Jr., James Cruthird, and Edward Cruthird, Sr. and three sisters, Margaret Cruthird, Carmen Cruthird and Lenora Cruthird.
She is survived by one daughter, Monica Cruthird of Cairo. Illinois, three grandsons, Allen Cruthird of Jacksonville, Florida, Abraham Purchase and Antrauis Marks of Cairo, Illinois, one brother, Robert Cruthird of Savannah, Georgia, two sisters, Theola Rush and Odessa Cruthird of Los Angeles, California, her lifelong friend, Wilma Carter of Cairo, Illinois, two special people she considered daughters, Nikeda Webb of Kankakee, Illinois and Alicia Gardner of Cairo, Illinois, a special young lady that she viewed as her granddaughter, Amiah Johnson of Cairo, Illinois and a host of honorary children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 11:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at the Cairo Junior Senior High School with Minister Janielya Oats officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
