Albert Dee Reed, Sr., 73, resident of Charleston, Missouri entered into eternity on April 16, 2021 at Willowbrook Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Belleville, Illinois . He was born January 16, 1948 in Noxubee, Mississippi to the late Odell Kent and Rosie Lee Reed Kent.
He was raised by his grandparents, Albert and Lucille Reed. His parents and grandparents have preceded him in death.
He attended Lincoln School in Charleston, Missouri, but soon thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Army. While in the military, he fought in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge for fighting off Vietnamese soldiers and saving his unit. He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Marksman (M-14 Rifle), the Marksman (M-16 Rifle), the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and two Overseas Bars. He was honorably discharged January 22, 1970.
He married Betty Mae Craig and they had two children together. On August 18, 1974, he married Charlene Armstrong; together, they raised five children.
Albert was a hardworking man. He worked for Wagner Farms then Bunge North America for over 30 years until his retirement.
He was known as the neighborhood "Jack of All Trades," because of his ability to build barbeque grills and lawnmowers, along with remodeling homes. He loved to build and help those he loved.
On August 2, 2020, Albert was baptized and became a member of Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
If you ever sat down to talk to him, you would know he was a man of few words; however, some of those words would always include "I'm hip." Albert will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Reed of Wilson City, Missouri, three sons, Claude (Lorene) Armstrong of Wilson City, Missouri, Albert Reed, Jr. and Terrance (Lorie) Clemons of Charleston, Missouri, two daughters, Pammie (Solomon) Roy of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Dr. Katrenia (Glen) Reed-Hughes of Indianapolis, Indiana, one brother, Odell Kent Jr. of Charleston, Missouri , seven sisters, Rosie Ivy, Lucille (Kevin) Anderson, Lula B. (Robert Earl) Clark, and Geraldine (Warren) Fisher all of Charleston, Missouri, Jessie B. (Charles) Gillespie of Howardville, Mo, Lori Ann Walker of Sikeston, Missouri, and Betty Jo (R.V.) Oliver of Mayfield, Kentucky,17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends, including his best friend, Larry Sloan, a special friend, Verlene Dowell, and helped raise, Eric Dowell.
Friends may call Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wilson City, Missouri with Pastor Samuel Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston with full military honors.
