Arthur "Vern" Severn Renfro

January 1, 1935 — October 4, 2020

Arthur Severn Renfro, affectionately known as Vern, 85, resident of Sikeston, Missouri transitioned October 4, 2020 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Sikeston, Missouri.  He was born January 1, 1935 in Sikeston, Missouri to the late James David Renfro and Julia Edwards Renfro.

Vern completed high school and enlisted in the United States Army.  He served for six years and was an expert marksman.  He received an honorable discharge on March 23, 1964.

Upon separation from the military, he worked for many years at the Anchor Toy Factory in Sikeston, Missouri. He was also one of the original founders of the "Return to Sunset" Annual Reunion.  He would later move to Benton Harbor, Michigan where he was employed as the supervisor of the Parks Public Works Division.  Vern would eventually move to St. Louis, Missouri and spend his time working at the United States Post Office for years.

He confessed a hope in Christ and considered West End Missionary Baptist Church his church home.  He was baptized by his brother-in-law, Pastor L.L. Williams, who counseled with him sometimes.  His favorite scripture was Psalm 23.  During his sickness, he would recite that verse all the time, because he felt all God's children should know that passage of scripture.

When Vern was not working, he loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed playing pool. He was an avid sports fan who loved to watch television and read the newspaper, because he enjoyed talking on any subject.

Vern eventually moved home to Sikeston, Missouri so he could attend to the needs of his aging mother.  He would do so until his health failed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Everett Nixon, Oblenis Gipson, and Micheal Gipson and his sister, Floy Spence.

He is survived by one daughter, Tracy Brown Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia, one son, Arcanda Dwayne Booker of Sikeston, Missouri, three sisters and one brother-in-law, Everlean Brown of Sikeston, Missouri, Syletta and Pastor L.L. Williams, and Bessie Renfro of Chicago, Illinois, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, October 10, 2020 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Missouri with Pastor L.L. Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset of Memories with full military honors.  The Williams Funeral Homes of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
