Bernice Scott Gilmore

Bernice Scott Gilmore, 81, resident of New Madrid, Missouri died on January 4, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born March 25, 1938 in Conrand, Arkansas to the late Algen and Essie Bruce Scott.

She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid, Missouri.

Bernice was employed as a Head Start Aide many years ago,  and she was a homemaker  until she retired.   She was a caregiver for Mrs. Mildred Copeland of New Madrid, Missouri for many years until God called her home.

She was a great cook who loved flowers and working in her garden.  She also had a deep love for animals, especially her cat, Max, and her dog, KeKe.

Bernice touched the hearts of many who came in contact with her.

In addition to her parents,  she is also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Taylor, Jimmy Scott and Leroy Scott, two sisters, Birdie Mae Smith and Annie Mae Scott, and one brother-in-law, Leonard Smart.

She is survived by one son, Victor Ray Gilmore of  New Madrid, Missouri, three daughters, Sandra Scott and Trina (Warren) Freeman of New Madrid, Missouri and Lisa (Al "June") Hampton of Dyersburg, Tennessee, two sisters, Brenda (Jake) Wheeler of Bernie, Missouri and Mary Smart of Elkhart, Indiana, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smart of Elkhart, Indiana and Lillie "Tootsie" Taylor of New Madrid, Missouri, her God daughter,  Ann Evans Copeland, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at First Baptist Church of New Madrid in New Madrid, Missouri with Dr. Keith Frye, Jr., officiating and Reverend Leotis Aikens, Jr. eulogizing.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid with the Williams Funeral Home of Howardville in charge of arrangements.
