Bettye Mae Haynes Betts

January 12, 1947 — October 18, 2018

Bettye Mae Haynes Betts, 71, resident of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Charleston, Missouri died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was born January 12, 1947 in Charleston, Missouri to the late Robert and Susie Bailey Haynes, Sr.

Bettye confessed her faith in Christ at an early age at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri and attended Zion Grove Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was married to Frank Betts for 31 years.  Once united, Bettye gained six step sons, Marcus, Thomas. Darrell, Andre, Franklin and Andre Dewayne and four step daughters, Valerie, Carol, LaVonda and Vateria.  He preceded her in death.

She made Kansas City, Missouri her home for over 20 years where she was employed at Research Belton Hospital until her retirement in 2007.

She was known for her cooking and giving advice to all who would listen.  She would always tell you exactly what she thought, and she loved playing cards and winning.

Bettye helped raise a lot of children in her family including, Lanell Haynes, Ann Whitaker, Lee Keller, LaSalle Keller, James Keller, Julie Sager, Amber Givhan, LaToyia Edmond,  Jalissa Haynes-Wilder, Mary White, Eric Rice, Lisa Haynes, Erronia Haynes, Tonya White, Joseph White and many, many more.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her life partner, Billy Allen of Kansas City, Missouri, one sister, Rosemary (Charlie) Clark of Charleston, Missouri, one brother, Richard Haynes of Seattle, Washington, two step sisters, Rhonda Webb and Jamesie Williams of St. Louis, Missouri , one sister-in-law, Shirley Haynes of Seattle, Washington and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston, Missouri with Pastor Steve Betts officiating.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Missouri.
