Calvin Douglas Pullen,Sr.

December 18, 1950 — September 26, 2019

Calvin Douglas Pullen, Sr., 68, of Monroe, Georgia formerly of Bell City, Missouri departed this life on September 26, 2019 at Piedmont Walton Hospital in Monroe, Georgia. He was born the eighth child to  Elder J.C. and Elnora Shannon Pullen, Jr., on December 18, 1950 in Bell City, Missouri.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jerelene King and three brothers, Ernest Leggs, Rufus Pullen and Robert L. Pullen.

Calvin attended high school in Bell City, Missouri. After high school, he attended Three Rivers Junior College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri where he met and married Regina Nickerson. To this union, one daughter was born, Sharisse Pullen. During this time, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and received a National Defense Service Medal, as well as a Vietnam Service Medal.

In 1980, he married to Trudy Clark. To this union, one son was born, Calvin D. Pullen, Jr.

He pursued higher education and obtained three Associate degrees, a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology, Physical and Biological Sciences and Education. Over the years, Calvin worked in several different industries; however, he found his passion in teaching and taught for over 20 years and retired from the Georgia - Walton County Public School System.

He served as treasurer of The American Legion Post 531 in Monroe, Georgia.

Calvin had a love for farming, baseball and geology. Calvin was a fun-loving person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by; two children: Sharisse (Leon) Woods of Sauk Village, Illinois, Calvin D. Pullen Jr. of Green Cove Springs, Florida , three grandchildren: Shareáe Woods and Noel Woods,  of Sauk Village, Illinois and Calvin D. Pullen III of Green Cove Springs, Florida ; two sisters: Minnie Morrow of St. Louis, Missouri, Opal (Al) Johnson of Oceanside, California; three brothers: Edgar Pullen of Chesterfield, Missouri, Josephus C. Pullen III of St. Louis, Missouri and Theodore Pullen of Bell City, Missouri; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, October  12, 2019 at Christ Sanctuary Church of God in Christ in Bell City, Missouri from 10:00 A. M. until the funeral hour of 11:00 A. M. with Dr. Elisha Pullen, officiating.   Full military honors will be accorded.
