Carey Hughes, Jr, 58, resident of Chicago, Illinois, died, Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He was born April 6, 1961 in Benton, Missouri to the late Carey Hughes, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Hughes of Chicago, Illinois.
Carey Jr., affectionately known as "June Bug," was the oldest of nine siblings and reared by his grandmother, Olenthia Johnson, affectionately known as "Big Ma."
He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was also a past member of Harmony Lodge #40.
He was a man of many talents and if he didn't know how to do something, he would eventually figure it out. Upon graduation from Scott County Central High School, Carey attended ITT Technical School near St. Louis, Missouri where he became a Certified Automobile and Diesel Specialist. He was employed as a mechanic at several places including SEMO Motor Company in Sikeston, Missouri.
Carey was inquisitive and a business minded person, this lead him to be the owner of Rehabbing Houses and a Full Service Asphalt Company both in Chicago, Illinois.
In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by one brother, Lowery Hughes.
Survivors include his children, Karey Hughes, Carissa Hughes, Shay Randolph, Jasmine Hughes, Carey Hughes III, Chandler Hughes, and Tori Stevenson, his mother, Johnnie Mae Hughes, two brothers, Russell Hughes and Michael Hughes of Chicago, Illinois, five sisters, Herice "Loraine" (Donnie) McClinton of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Hope House of California, Mary Hughes and Loretta Hughes of Chicago, Illinois and Shirley Dawson of Gary, Indiana, a mentor, Mrs. Lester Maury of Chicago, Illinois, a special nephew, Donnie "Ja" McClinton, five grandchildren, Lamarcus Groce, Jr., Armond Groce, Ka'Myric Groce, Jhase Robinson and August Robinson, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Friends may call Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 6:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. at Leaks and Sons Funeral Home located at 7838 Cottage Grove Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois with Pastor Dewayne Davis of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois as moderator.
Friends may call Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 10:00 A. M. until 12:00 Noon at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood City, Missouri where Pastor Alex Sims will be the moderator.
Interment will follow in the New Morning Star Cemetery in Haywood City, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston, Missouri in charge of local arrangements.
