Cornise Gillespie passed away at NEA Baptist Hospital on August 9, 2021 at the age 77.
Cornise is predeceased by his mother Zelma(Love)Gillespie, father, Clem Gillespie, two brothers Bobby Gillespie, Sam Gillespie, and one sister Irene Gillespie.
Cornise is lovingly remembered by his five children, Cornise "J.P." Gillespie, Jr. of Jonesboro, AR, Monique(Jason)White, Hermitage, TN, Giannette Gillespie, Lebanon, TN, Kenneth Gillespie, Yichang, China and Douglas(Katrina)Gillespie, Salt Lake City, Utah. Sixteen Grandchildren, Liliana (Gillespie) Cueva, Monneshea House, Joshua Gillespie, Steven House, Jr., Dederick House, Andre Gillespie, Desmond Gillespie, Deionte Davis, Quoshon Gillespie, Diaminique Davis, Alexandria Gillespie, Mahailia Jenkins, Jordan Gillespie, Gabrielle Jenkins, Jasmine Martin. Great-grandchildren Jamari Watkins, Aubriel House, Jada Slagle, Amir House, Miyonna House, Brooklyn Anthony, Aiden Gillespie, Ezekiel Ellis, Ja'khari Cain. Brothers Dorie Gillespie Ft. Wayne, IN and Rodney Gillespie, Indianapolis, IN.
Cornise was born in Charleston, MO on August 22, 1943. He graduated from Fort Wayne Central High School in 1961 and enlisted into the Air Force from 1961 to 1967. He went on to earn a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University. He was a member of the Church of Christ and also served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Exchange Club in Smyrna, TN. He worked as a supervisor for General Electric for 36 years in Murfreesboro, TN, Hendersonville, TN and Jonesboro, AR.
He enjoyed spending time with family, was an avid reader of the bible, literature and history books. Later in life he took pleasure in word searches and Suduko.
The visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home, 304 Vine Street in Charleston, MO 63834 on Friday, August 20th from 5-7pm.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Bowden Center, 700 Sy Williams Ave, Charleston, MO 63834 on Saturday, August 21st at 11am with Pastor Rubin Brinkley, officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery,1230 US-62, Charleston, MO 63834 at 1pm with full military honors. A repast will take place at Bowden Center, 700 Sy Williams Ave, Charleston, MO 63834 on Saturday, August 21st at 2pm.
