Donald Eugene Dixon, 61, resident of Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of East Prairie, Missouri died Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was born May 28, 1957 in Charleston, Missouri to the late John and Ella Mae Wilson Strayhorn.
Donald accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Wolf Island, Missouri.
He was a graduate of East Prairie High School, in East Prairie, Missouri where he participated in basketball and track. He went on to further his education by attending School of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri where he also participated in basketball and track. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. Donald loved participating in body building contests across the United States where he became well known. During the peak of his career in body training, he had quite a physique. His last employment was with B. J. Gym in Jefferson City, Missouri.
While in the nursing home, Donald would read his Bible daily and was known for going from room to room praying for the patients. He was also known as the patients’ advocate. If he saw what he thought was an injustice, he would go to staff and if he did not get the desired results, he would take it to the administrator. This would leave his family praying that they would not throw him out. Soon Donald began preaching to many including his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Dixon and Joseph Dixon, who died four days earlier on February 5, 2019, and one sister, Gloria Dixon.
He is survived by one daughter, Ericka Pinion of Shawnee, Oklahoma, five brothers, William Dixon of Kansas City, Kansas, Oliver Dixon of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Robert (Carol) Dixon of Murphysboro, Illinois, Benny (Micheal) Strayhorn of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Roy (Angie) Dixon of Las Vegas, Nevada and one sister, Deloris (Keith) Bulliner of Fairview Heights, Illinois, three granddaughters and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, Missouri. Interment will be at 12:30 pm in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Missouri.
