Dorothy Mae Bankhead, 73, resident of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Charleston, Missouri died Thursday, May 7, 2020 at ManorCare Health Services in Davenport, Iowa. She entered this world on May 24, 1946 in Charleston, Missouri to the late Hattie Marie Spillers Moore and Norman E. Moore.
Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Affectionately, she was nicknamed “Doll Baby” by family.
Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School in Charleston, Missouri. However, she continued her education and earned her degree from AIC Technical Institute in Davenport, Iowa, School of Business.
She was a hard worker and worked a variety of jobs, including a classroom aide and a crossing guard at Lincoln Fundamental School. She would eventually become employed at Pine Knoll Health Care Facility. Dorothy began her career there as a part-time dietitian and later became a full-time housekeeper. She worked there for many years ultimately retiring as a full-time environmental aide.
Dorothy then left Davenport to care for her mother in Charleston, Missouri. Her hobbies included family gatherings, joking around, shopping, and watching soap operas and Wheel of Fortune.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Rochelle Moore, one granddaughter, Bianca Moore, one great granddaughter, Vern'Tasia Zykira Moore, as well as by four brothers, Mac Arthur Shelby, Joe Shelby, Scott E. Moore, and Bobby Lee Moore, and three sisters, Barbara Ann Moore, Rose Moore-Graham, and Delmarie Moore.
Dorothy Mae Bankhead is survived by one son, Wilbur E.(Rachel) Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada, one daughter, Sheila (Darrell) Moore Brown of Davenport, Iowa, three sisters, Almetta Pearson and Ruth (L.D.) Harrington of Davenport, Iowa and Shirley Murray of Charleston, Missouri, nine granddaughters, Shauntel Moore and Takeedra Moore of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Latrista Moore of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Tianee Brown and Shameka Brown of Des Moines, Iowa, Alexis Moore, Kiana Stanziola, Jasmine Moore, and Sebastian Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada, three great grandsons, Vern'Tarious Moore and Jarius Tate of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Jaydan Robinson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, two great granddaughters, Dasia Trice of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Aliyah Martin of Des Moines, Iowa, two nieces she raised, Danielle Moore of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Djenaba Moore of Charleston, Missouri, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A walk through visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
