Dorothy King

Dorothy King, 88, formerly of Charleston Missouri, resident of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away Tuesday, July, 2 ^nd , 2019.  She was born May 22, 1931 in Charleston MO, to the late Mable Turner.

Dorothy graduated high school in 1949 and relocated to Florida, where she met her husband,  Allen King (deceased). While in Florida, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Miami Dade University.  Dorothy made Labelle, Florida her home for 30+ years, where she was affectionately known as teacher Dorothy. She taught at the local headstart going on to become the superintendent. Dorothy was known for educating, nurturing and affecting the lives of many in the small community of Labelle, FL.  In 1984, she relocated to Charleston, MO to care for her ailing mother.

She was a member of Opportunity Church of God in Christ, where she served many years as the secretary and Sunday school teacher. She served as the President of The Ever-Ready Club, a member of the Pastor-Aide Committee and Assistant Secretary of the Home and Foreign Missions.  Dorothy was passionate about God, church and her family as she devoted her life to helping others.  In her later years, she enjoyed reading her bible and spending time with those closest to her.

In addition to her mother Mabel Turner, she is preceded in death by her husband Allen King, her son, George Johnson and grandson Anthony Johnson.

She is survived by one Brother, Phillip (Deborah) Turner of Charleston, MO, one Daughter Allena (Percy) Mitchell of Ballwin, MO.  She leaves to cherish 16 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Friends may call Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 11:00 am until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston, Missouri with the pastor, Superintendent Steve Betts officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
