Ellis Cassel, Sr., 85, died Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri. He was born July 12, 1935 in Wolf Island, Missouri to the late Ester and Ida Mae Conor Cassel.
Ellis accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. He eventually moved to Charleston, Missouri and became a Deacon at St. Matthews Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church. He would later serve as a Deacon at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church until he was no longer able.
On January 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mae Ella Seale. To this union, nine children were born. He resided in Henson, Missouri most of his married life. They enjoyed 67 years together.
He was a farmer for over 40 years and was also a self-made carpenter. Ellis enjoyed hunting, gardening and fishing in his free time. He loved his wife’s cooking, especially her homemade pies, cakes, and ice cream.
He was a gentle man who loved his family dearly. He was well known in the community as a good man who was honest, kept his word, and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was most famous for giving out nicknames to the children in the family.
He is preceded in death by two sons, Robert Cassel, Sr. and Steven Cassel, one brother, Ester Cassel, Jr., two sisters, Remmitte Cassel-Sager and Pearl Cassel-Cornelius, one daughter-in-law, Vickie Cassel, and two grandsons.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife, Mae Ella Cassel of the home, six sons, Ellis (Ella) Cassel, Jr. of Peoria, Illinois, Angelo Cassell and Richard (Chrishonda) Cassell of Sikeston, Missouri, Tommie Cassel of Charleston, Missouri, Kenneth Cassel of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Marvin (Debbie) Cassel of Ozark, Missouri, one daughter, Gloria (Donnie) Straughter of Charleston, Missouri, one daughter-in-law, Annette Cassel of Howardville, Missouri, 21 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A walk through visitation will be held Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. until the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The Williams Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
