Elmo Choclet, 81, affectionately known as Reverend Elmer Lee Shockley, died Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born March 10, 1940 to the late Reverend Cleveland Mack and Glendora ( Buckner) Shockley in Blytheville, Arkansas.
At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ through baptism at True Light Missionary Baptist Church where he preached his first service at the age of 12.
On June 26, 1982 Reverend Shockley married the love of his life, Glenda Howard. They formed a Godly life journey. She did the driving while he did the preaching.
Reverend Shockley was known for his gift to quote scriptures and preach from a closed bible. Through the years he spread the Gospel through Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois. He also spent time pastoring many churches. Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Cairo, Illinois was the last church before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Glendora Shockley, his siblings, Lillie Edwards, Chester M. Shockley, Katie Lee Henderson, Queen Esther Isaac Shockley, Lucius B. Shockley, and Robert Collins, and his daughter, Tiffany Cleaves.
Reverend Shockley is survived by his wife Glenda Shockley, six sons, Travis (Lisa) Shockley, Timothy (Regina) Shockley, Cleveland Cleaves, Dwayne (Tammy) Cleaves, Elmer Lee Shockley, Jr., and Eric (Kesha) Shockley, two daughters, Tangler Cleaves and Tekesha Cleaves, one brother, Lee Daniel Shockley, a special niece, Shirley Eskin, 40 grand and great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Friends may call Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 Noon at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Joseph G. Cotton, Jr. officiating. The Williams Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
