Erma Jean Applewhite

June 15, 1951 — July 7, 2019

Erma Jean Applewhite, 68, resident of Sikeston, Missouri died July 7, 2019 at the Miner Nursing Center in Miner, Missouri.  She was born June 15, 1951 in Sikeston, Missouri to the late Fred and Elizabeth Peet Barnhill.

She attended  Matthews Public  School  in Matthews, Missouri and was a terrific stay-at-home mom and housewife.

She and her husband, Joseph Applewhite, enjoyed over 35 years of true love.  He preceded her in death on July 30, 2017.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by one brother, Ollie Barnhill, and three sisters, Mamie Shine, Jo Barnhill and Minnie B. Barnhill.

Erma was a great cook and enjoyed shopping, yard sales, thrift stores, and riding motorcycles with Joseph. She also loved music, her grandchildren and her family, to her, "family was her thing".  She was always most comfortable when she dressed down.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Antwan and Shameika Barnhill of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Lee Edward and Kelly Barnhill of St. Louis, Missouri, one daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Steve Flye of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, four brothers, Johnny Frank Barnhill  of Sikeston, Missouri and Sylvester Barnhill, Willie Barnhill and Thomas Barnhill  of Columbus, Ohio, one sister, Thelma Barnhill of Columbus, Ohio, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P. M. at Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri with Pastor Herman Gardner officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sunset of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
