Ernest G. Tate, affectionately known as Fred, 72, resident of Wilson City, Missouri died Thursday, October 28, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 5, 1949 in Cliftonville, Mississippi to the late Less Tate and Sallie Reed Orr.
Ernest loved the Lord. He served as the Head Usher at Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wilson City, Missouri.
He was a hardworking man in and out of the church. He did carpentry work and was employed by Moreton Farms for over 50 years. Ernest worked hard for Moreton Farms even during his illness.
In 1970, Ernest married the love of his life, Julia Lee Armstrong, in Charleston, Missouri. They were a living testimony to sticking together like glue through 50 years of marriage, ten kids, 27 grandkids, and 39 great grandkids, that was love and many sacrifices. They trusted the Lord for all things as the head of their lives.
In his spare time, Ernest would enjoy farming, fishing, and hunting. He also liked playing pool and baseball. He was happiest when spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Anthony Armstrong, one daughter, Charla Mitchell, three brothers, four sisters, and his grandson, Kevion Tate.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Julia Lee Tate of the home, his four sons, Donald (Lisa) Armstrong, Ronald (Clara) Armstrong, Lorenzo (Rena) Tate, and Leroy (Sherita) Tate, his four daughters, Sabrina Tate, Mary (Eric) Tate Avance, Patricia (Jesse) Tate Johnson, and Clementine Tate, three brothers, Wiley Orr, Frank Davis, and Jimmy Lee Davis, four sisters, Annie B. Armstrong, Daisy Mae Orr, Kim Davis, and Geneva Orr, his son-in-law, Ronald Mitchell, his special sister-in-law, Charlene Reed, 27 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, two special friends, Jim Moreton and John Moreton and their family, who he'd known for over 50 years, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Friends may call Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wilson City, Missouri with Pastor Samuel Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
