Ernestine Wells, 78, resident of Sikeston, Missouri died, February 15, 2020, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was born June 30, 1941 in Deeson, Mississippi to the late Charlie and Ocie Harris Johnson.
Ernestine accepted Christ at an early age and was of the Baptist faith. She had a personal relationship with God and attended her church regularly.
She was educated in the Oran Public Schools and was one of the five black girls to first graduate from Oran High School in 1962.
After graduation, Ernestine moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked a variety of jobs.
On December 25, 1962 she was united in marriage to Jessie Wells, Jr. To this union three children were born, Terry, Darryl and Cynthia.
After retiring from work, she moved to Sikeston, Missouri to be near family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Terry Wells, her only daughter, Cynthia Wells, six brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by one son, Darryl Wells of Sikeston, Missouri, one brother, John Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri, one sister, Olivia Williams of St. Louis, Missouri, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, including Fred (Juanita) Johnson of Sikeston, Missouri, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11:00 A. M. for a Memorial Service at Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, Missouri with Pastor Michael Brown officiating.
