Fred Smith Jr. began this life’s journey on February 10, 1957 in Sikeston, MO to the late Betty Lee “Sophie” Simmons and Fred Smith. He was one of nine children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Carol Lynn Brown, Marietta Yvonne “Rita” Warfield, Levoulia Maxine Crenshaw and Lois Ellen Dixon, one brother: Robert Earl Simmons Sr., one half-brother: Frederick Smith, two brothers-in-law: Charles Alfred Crenshaw and Ed Dixon and one sister in law: Minnie Simmons.
Fred lived with his brother Robert Earl and his family in Aberdeen, Mississippi for a while and loved being his sidekick every where they went. It was there that Fred was baptized in July 1998 at Baptist Grove Missionary Baptist church in Prairie, Mississippi.
Fred worked at Job Corps for years where he learned a lot of different skills such as plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration so he was very good at fixing any thing. He also worked at Sonny’s and Bridger Construction.
In his younger years, Fred loved to dress nice and shop at his favorite stores Falkoffs and Eubanks-Finney Department Store. He also loved his shiny Stacy Adams dress shoes. He also loved hanging out with his two good friends Floyd Champion and Frederick Ellis (a.k.a. Frog). You could always catch the three of them walking around the community laughing and singing. They were truly the “3 Amigos”. They had good times. For the most part Fred was a quiet introverted person, but on the other hand he could be something else to deal with. He also loved to listen to music and listen to the radio. He liked watching TV—especially Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, Sanford & Son and the Jeffersons.
Fred did not have any kids, but he would do anything for his nieces and nephews.
Fred leaves to remember his love and cherish fond memories of him: two brothers: Charles Stanley Simmons of Sikeston, Missouri and Michael Dewayne Simmons of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; three half-brothers: Larry (Annie) Smith of Colt, Arkansas; Willie (Eunice) Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Paul (Deloris) Smith of Little Rock Arkansas; one sister: Sheila Monea (Kenny) Brown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one half-sister: Freddie Mae Smith of Marked Tree, Arkansas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He will be fondly remembered by all.
