Mae Jewel Johnson

April 10, 1943 — September 19, 2021

Mae Jewel Johnson was born April 10, 1943, in Macon MS to the late Corrine and Phillip Branigan.

She confessed Christ at an early age and continued to serve Him through her caregiving for her parents and others.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Bobby Johnson.

Mae Jewel enjoyed working in the home and caring for others. She adored her grandchildren and loved her family and friends with everything in her heart.

She became a member of Opportunity Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Steve Betts until she became a fulltime caregiver for her husband.

On Sunday, September 19, 2021, Mae Jewel went home to be with the Lord at the age of 78 years, five months, and nine days.

She leaves to cherish her memories: five children, Melvin (Armedrest) Branigan of Paducah, KY, Ricky (Elvira) Branigan of Columbus, GA, Patty Branigan, Sandra (Everick) Emmanuel, and Carolyn (Moszel) Dunnigan all of Charleston, MO, five granddaughters, Mareesa of Manassa, VA, Essence, Bianca, Sonya, and Sona (Tweet) all of Charleston, MO,  four grandsons, Brandon of Columbia GA, Colby, Brandon and Adrian all of Charleston, MO, and Dajion Branigan of Dallas, TX plus 20 great grandchildren, four sisters Mamie Taylor of Memphis, TN, Pearlie (Edward) Kent and Annie (Percy) Ivy both of Charleston MO and Carolyn Wood of Marion, IL, two brothers, Phillip (Bobbie) Branigan of Memphis, TN and James Branigan of Fort Wayne, IN, one sister-in-law, Juanita Johnson, a special family friend, Glen Welch, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband,  she was preceded in death by her two sisters: Lillie Mae Campbell and Cynthia Lee Holland, a special sister-in-law, Rosemary Branigan,  two brothers, Sammie Branigan and Murley Branigan, a son-in-law, Moszel Dunnigan, and one grandson, Marquan Branigan.

There will be no public  service, the family will have a memorial site celebration on October 2, 2021.
