James Edward Sinks, Jr., affectionately known as Sam, 70, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born on March 29, 1950 in Wyatt, Missouri to the late James Edward Sinks, Sr. and the late Myretta Clark Sinks.
Sam attended Charleston Public Schools until the age 16, and then obtained his GED. After scoring amazingly high on the ASVAB test, he was drafted into the United States Air Force. Sam served his country during the Vietnam War.
Sam enjoyed the sport boxing in his younger years. He was hard, loving, giving, kind, brutally honest, and above all…real. What he had on his mind at the time is what you got, and if one couldn't handle it, it was their problem. Sam loved his friends, family, and his community. He enjoyed riding around town playing his music, The O'Jays, Latimore, and 2 Pac were a few of his favorites. He enjoyed making others laugh.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings; brother, Otha Lee Sinks; sisters: Barbara Jean Moore, Ernestine Woods, Kathryn Sinks, Dorothy Jean Sinks, Mildred Sinks, and Opah Lee Sinks.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, one son, Anthony LeVar Sinks of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, two daughters, Charlotte Ewing and Shatara Ewing, both of Charleston, Missouri, eight grandchildren, Ally Wayland, Maxwell Sinks, Marshavia Ewing, Nickkiya Pratt, Quavo Ewing, Lionneshia Ewing, De'Marquioin Ewing, Mikey (Rene) Ewing, Chris Ewing, Jeffrey Ewing, Jennifer Ewing-Gomez, and Olivia Ewing, and 16 step grandchildren. Sam also had an abundance of special nieces, nephews,, cousins, and friends, including Anthony Dunnigan to cherish his memories.
Friends may call Monday, January 11, 2021 at 12:00 noon at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, Missouri. Full military honors will be accorded at 2:00 P.M.
