Jerry Spencer

February 1, 1959 — November 12, 2020

Jerry Spencer, affectionately known as Mississippi, 61, resident of Sikeston, Missouri died Thursday, November 12, 2020 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  He was born February 1, 1959 in Inverness, Mississippi to the late Ira Lee Spencer and Minnie Leavy Spencer.

He was blessed with honorary parents, Isaiah Grayson and Essie Grayson, early in life.  Being raised in the home with his sister, Lena Raby, was a joy. He loved helping his big sister.

Jerry also loved going to church.  He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri where he served as a deacon.

He was a very quiet man with a humble spirit.  He loved children, and they loved him.  Jerry was content whether he was collecting cans, fishing, eating a honey bun, or drinking a mountain dew. He took time to enjoy the simple things in life, especially going to bingo with his big sister, Lena.

In addition to his birth parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Spencer and Henry Spencer, and one sister, Irene Spencer.

Mississippi is survived by seven brothers, Jimmy (Annie) Spencer, Ira Spencer, and Tommy Spencer all of Sikeston, Missouri, Melvin (Wanda) Spencer of St. Louis, Missouri, Nelvin Spencer of Fulton, Missouri, Mitchell Spencer of Houston, Texas, and Robert Spencer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, three sisters, Lena Raby of Sikeston, Missouri, Lucille Spencer of Beulah, Mississippi, and Emma Thomas of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
