Jimmie Betts

Born December 28, 1931, in Charleston, MO to Jim and Mattie Johnson Betts, Jimmie Betts entered his eternal rest on Friday, May 28, 2021, at the age of 89.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mattie Johnson Betts, one son - Herbert Betts, six brothers - Luke, William, Frank, Herman, Robert, and Calvin Betts, and three sisters, Lula Mae Betts, Miriam Foster, and Florene Young.

Jimmie attended Charleston Public Schools and in 1950 was united in holy matrimony to his beloved Rosie Priscilla McAllister of MO, who preceded him in death on March 29, 2009. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage, to which 12 children were born.

Jimmie had many passions. He loved farming, gardening, automobiles, and most of all, family. He enjoyed home cooked meals and took extreme pride in presenting his own specially seasoned barbecue. Ever the people person, Jimmie never met a stranger. He was well known and loved by the community and took great pride in his work until he retired at the age of 83.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Flora (John) Clemons of Cape Girardeau, MO; Marilyn Fields of Kansas City, KS; Prisus Betts and Mary (Tom) Bates of Logansport, IN; Donald Betts of MN; Dinita (Rex) Grady of Walton, IN; James Betts of Cape Girardeau, MO; Gloria (Darian) Hayes of Warrenton, VA; Dale Betts of Indianapolis, IN; Sherman Betts of Cape Girardeau, MO; and Bruce (Sharon) Betts of Jackson, MO; a brother, Johnny (Dorothy) Betts of Kansas City, MO; sisters, Carrie Milo and Manie McElory of Kansas City, MO and Minnie Betts of St. Louis, MO; 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives.

Friends may call Friday, June 4, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:30 P.M. at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Elder Darian Hayes officiating.  Interment will immediately follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
