John Thomas “Lafayette” Hightower, 65, affectionately known as Laffy, was born to Mr. Cecil B. and Mrs. Mable Hightower on March 18, 1956 in Charleston, Mssouri. He left to get his reward on Sunday, March 6, 2022 while in his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, John and Gemane, three sisters, Carrie, Polly, and Shirley, and four brothers, Cecil Jr., Orel, James, and Donald.
John was a 1974 graduate of Charleston High School.
He worked at several factories in Southeast Missouri until ill health forced him to retire.
One of John’s favorite comments when spoken to was “You got everything going your way.” He also thought he was the king of trivia, and the Bullwhip in Bid Whist.(we can all see him smiling that big grin)-“7 No Uptown to all the Bid players.”
John leaves to mourn, three daughters, Tomeka(Marcus) Emanuel and Shenna of Charleston, Missouri and Beyonce’ of Sikeston, Missouri, five sons, Marcus and Richard of Springfield, Illinois, Charles of Decatur, Illinois, Adrian of St. Louis, Missouri, and Keith of Charleston, Missouri, one sister, Juanita of Chicago, Illinois, one brother, Harry (Mary) of Madison, Alabama, a very special companion and friend, Ms. Andrell Cox, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was lucky to have four friends-not good friends-but great friends in Ms. Larniece Moore, Mr. Dennis Gillespie, Mr. Dwight Robinson, and Mr. Dwight Rice.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 19, 2022 in the Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, Missouri with Reverend Alvin Hightower officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
