Joseph Albert Dixon

April 16, 1953 — February 5, 2019

Joseph Albert Dixon, 65, resident of Fairview Heights, Illinois, formerly of East Prairie, Missouri  died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.  He was born April 16, 1953 in Charleston, Missouri to the late John and Ella Mae Wilson Strayhorn.

Joseph accepted Christ and was raised attending Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Wolf Island, Missouri.

He was a graduate of East Prairie High School in East Prairie, Missouri.  He then attended School of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri for two years where he was active in basketball, football and track. Afterward Joseph joined the United States Navy, serving on the USS Hewitt where he became an Electrical/Technical Equipment Repairman.  He served his country for five years, three months and seven days, receiving an honorable discharge.  Joseph made San Diego, California his home for several years.  He relocated to Murphysboro, Illinois before settling in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Joseph enjoyed watching and playing sports.  In his later years, he loved watching ‘The Price is Right’ and became quite a Connoisseur of good food.  He was a soft spoken gentleman who would give you the shirt off his back.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Dixon, and one sister, Gloria Dixon.

He is survived by six brothers, William Dixon of Kansas City, Kansas, Oliver  Dixon of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Robert (Carol) Dixon of Murphysboro, Illinois, Donald Dixon and Benny (Micheal) Strayhorn of  Jefferson City, Missouri, and Roy (Angie) Dixon of Las Vegas, Nevada and one sister, Deloris (Keith) Bulliner of Fairview Heights, Illinois,  and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, Missouri.  Interment will be at 12:30 pm in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Missouri with full Military Rites.
