JReece ''Jerry'' Johnson, 60, resident of Haywood City, Missouri died Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri. He was born on August 9, 1958 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to the late Reverend Roosevelt Johnson and Helen Brown Johnson.
Jerry attended Scott County Central School where he was active in basketball and baseball. He was a member of the graduating class of 1977. His love for and skills in baseball allowed him to try out for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team in 1978. He obtained his black belt in karate in the 80's. He traveled as far as Minnesota obtaining top rank in most of his meets.
He was employed by the Missouri Highway Department for 39 years, before retiring and he worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Sikeston, Missouri since 2000.
Jerry had a love for God, baseball, karate and his grandchildren. Jerry was blessed to have grandchildren. Very rarely did you see him without at least one of them. He attended Grandparents Day, honors assemblies and even signed them up for sports to keep them active and busy. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge Harmony #40 of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
On July 25, 1981, Jerry married the love of his life, Cora Owens, of Charleston, Missouri. To this union they were blessed with two sons. They were later blessed with three more sons.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife, Cora Johnson of the home , five sons, JReece Johnson, Jr. of Haywood City, Missouri, Caleb Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Antonio Johnson of Charleston, Missouri, Stewart Johnson of Sikeston, Missouri and Antwoin Johnson of Marion, Illinois, three brothers, James (Vanessa) Johnson of Sikeston, Missouri, Melvin Johnson of Bell City, Missouri and Reverend Paul (Nicole) Johnson of Haywood City, Missouri, four sisters, Rosemary Owens of Sikeston, Missouri, Reverend Bridgett (Reverend Melvin) Williams of East Prairie, Missouri, Silvia (Frank) Ellis of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Pam (Lester) Gillespie of Charleston, Missouri, 17 grand children, one great granddaughter, two uncles, Jimmy D. Brown of Haywood City, Missouri and Reverend Cleveland Jamison of Freeport, Illinois, two aunts, Dorothy Brown of Haywood City, Missouri and Barbara Brown of Sikeston, Missouri and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Friends may call Sunday, April 21, 2019 from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 2:00 P. M. at Greers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, Missouri with the pastor, Reverend Paul Johnson, officiating.
Interment will follow in the New Morley Cemetery in Morley, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
