Lawrence Edward Mays, 66, resident of Wilson City, Missouri died Sunday, October 8, 2023 while at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Born to Christine Mays Brown, he made his earthly arrival on June 2, 1957 at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was raised by his loving grandparents, Amos and Lela Mays.
In 1975, Lawrence enlisted into the United States Air Force after graduating from Charleston High School in Charleston, Missouri. While serving, he received the Army Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon and the Air Force Training Ribbon. He served his country honorably for several years.
In September of 1977, he married Evelyn Farris. To this union, three beautiful daughters were born.
In his spare time, Lawrence enjoyed watching the news and listening to music. He also liked to educate himself by learning computer technology and reading. Above all, spending time with his family made him happy. Those that loved him will remember his favorite saying “hmmmmm” and seeing him sit outside, enjoying life. He will be missed by many.
In addition to his mother, affectionately known to him as Mama-Stien, and his grandparents, Amos and Lela, Lawrence is preceded in death by his uncles, Jerry Mays and James Mays, two aunts, Ruby Jones and Mildred Powell, one brother-in-law, Lionel Crenshaw, and one nephew, Lil Jerry.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his daughters, Talisha M. Mays and Jessica R. Mays both of Charleston, Missouri, and Jennise L. Mays of Jonesboro, Georgia, his brothers, Dornell Brown, Maurice Brown, Steve (Karen) Brown, and Jerry Brown all of St. Louis, Missouri, his sisters, Linda Crenshaw of Charleston, Missouri, Clarice (Charles) Marshall and Carolyn (Vernon) Johnson both of St. Louis, Missouri, and Robin (Travis) Smith of Wilson, City, Missouri, his beloved grandchild, Miracle B. Mays, his uncle and aunt, Albert and Jewel Williams, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour of 3:00 P.M. at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston, Missouri.
